Flat text
Also called: plain text(txt)
Plain text is digital text that does not have any graphic formatting, such as fonts, bold and italic text or illustrations. The only formatting that can be added consists of whitespace, indentation and columns formed by tabs and spaces. The text is stored literally in this form, without style information and metadata in the file.
A popular program for writing plain text files is Notepad. Plain text editors often display the contents of documents in monospace fonts, so that all the letters and any spaces appear right underneath each other. A plain text document usually has the extension .txt.
The opposite of plain text is rich text, which is usually formatted in programs with a WYSIWYG interface.
