Poll
A poll is a survey of public opinion. The result of a poll reflects the opinion of those surveyed. These results can be taken into account when making decisions, but should be seen primarily as an indication of what the public or the market wants or thinks.
Online polls
It is relatively easy to conduct polls on the Internet. Online polls on websites consist of a form, which consists of a question with several possible answers. The visitor can select the answer in which he recognizes himself the most and then send in his vote. The vote is processed in the database. Then the current score appears on the screen.
Without security, poll results can be manipulated. If visitors can vote multiple times, it is possible to automatically cast a lot of votes for a particular option. Storing the visitor's IP address and placing a cookie are possible techniques to prevent this.
Elections and audience awards
Polls are also widely used around elections. In political elections, we are familiar with 'exit polls' that give an indication of the final election result. In some cases, an (online) poll is used to let the public determine the outcome of an election. These are often popularity elections, such as best artist, nicest shopping street or most innovative company.
