Aspect ratio

Aspect ratio is the ratio between the height and width of a photograph, illustration or display. The aspect ratio is usually indicated by a simplified designation of width and height, for example, 4:3 or 16:9. Here the width is listed first. Sometimes the aspect ratio is stated as a single number by dividing the width by the height.
At a ratio of 1:1, the format is exactly square. If the height of an image is greater than its width, it is called portrait. If the width is larger, it is called landscape. If the aspect ratio needs to be adjusted, this can be done by rotating, stretching or cropping the image.
In Dutch, aspect ratio is also called aspect ratio.
