Consent
Also called: informed consent(IC)
The literal translation of consent is permission. Within the marketing world, the term consent generally refers to a customer 's or user's consent to certain actions. Examples include setting cookies, processing personal data and sharing data with third parties. In cases where explicit consent is required by law, the action without consent is not allowed.
The need to obtain consent to store and process certain information is enshrined Europe-wide in the General Data Protection Regulation(GDPR). The obligation to ask a visitor if they want to accept marketing cookies and tracking cookies is referred to as the cookie law. The term opt-in refers to the permission to mail someone.
On Web sites, giving consent often consists of clicking a button or filling out a form. Depending on applicable laws, consent should also be easy to withdraw.
Informed consent
A specific form of consent is informed consent, or informed consent. With informed consent, the customer or user has not only had the choice to consent or decline. It has also been actively informed, in understandable language, of the implications of the decision and the applicable prerequisites.
