Community
Also called: online community
A community is a virtual community formed by users of a website, product or brand. Communities consist of like-minded people who share an interest in a particular topic or a customer relationship with a company.
Behind most communities is a common purpose. Members of a community can inform each other, help each other and exchange ideas. Companies can create or allow a community to connect with their target audience (or more specifically, customers) and connect them with a brand and with each other.
Interaction with and within a community can be facilitated in a variety of ways. Think of an interactive website, social media, discussion forum, direct marketing and organizing offline events. Within online communities, the users themselves provide most of the content.
Local communities
In another definition, community refers to a local community in which people within their working or living environment work together on common goals, such as activities in the areas of safety, care, leisure, education, environment and greenery.
Creating communities is also called community development. Maintaining and supporting communities is referred to as community management. A community manager is someone who plays a managing and coordinating role within a community.
