Web browser
Also known as: browser
A browser is a computer program that makes it possible to surf the World Wide Web, that is, view Web sites on the Internet. Web browsers allow Web pages to be downloaded from the Web and convert the source code to a graphical display on the screen.
Well-known Web browsers are Internet Explorer (Microsoft), Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari (Apple) and Opera. Most browsers are available for all major operating systems(Windows, OS X and Linux). Special browsers are available for mobile devices. These can be mobile versions of web browsers mentioned above, or browsers developed specifically for a mobile operating system.
Although standards define how Web browsers should interpret Internet languages such as HTML and CSS, slight differences exist between the various browsers. When developing a Web site, it is important to test the Web site in multiple browsers to make sure the site looks and works properly in each browser.
