Google Page Experience
A new rule on the algorithm is the Google Page Experience. Since 2021, this is definitively a key factor for your website's SEO score. But what is Google Page Experience? There are a number of signals that make up the Google Page Experience. These signals are also called "Core Web Vitals" and consist of the following three factors:
- LCP - Largest Contentful Paint: LCP represents the loading time of your website, aiming for a loading time of no more than 2.5 seconds
- FIP - First Input Delay: The response time of a click on a button or link is measured with FIP, which is sufficient when it is under 100 milliseconds
- CLS - Cumulative Layout Shift: The CLS measures the movement of elements while loading a page. When a visitor wants to click on the header and it moves down due to loading, the visitor clicks on another element. This causes irritation and a poor Page Experience
Other Google Page Experience aspects
In addition to the Core Web Vitals, there are a number of other aspects that fall under Google Page Experience:
- Mobile-friendliness: More and more users are visiting your website with their cell phones. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that your website is optimized for mobile visitors. For this, it is important to make good use of the screen space with correctly sized headings and small buttons
- Safe browsing: This service by Google reports unsafe websites. Suppose your website contains many unsafe connections and links, Google will report this when a visitor views your website
- HTTPS: An HTTPS connection means it is a secure connection. The well-known HTTP connection is versus the HTTPS less secure. Security is very important to Google, as already read at safe browsing. Therefore, it is better to offer an HTTPS connection so that this has a positive effect on your ranking in the results
- Intrunsive Interstitials: These can cause irritation and lower the user experience. An example of intrunsive interstitials are opaque pop-ups. Try to avoid these to create a positive Google Page Experience
