News feed
A newsfeed is a compiled list of news items from various sources. The feed can be established automatically, such as by including articles from a pre-chosen selection of RSS feeds, or manually compiled (curated).
Newsfeeds can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, for internal use, to keep people within the organization informed of developments in the market. A news feed can also be published on a website or distributed in the form of an e-mail newsletter, with the aim of attracting more visitors or subscribers. Or the feed can be shared on social media to gain more followers.
When published externally, the feed can be supplemented with advertisements. Either to promote own products and services or passing third-party ads as a revenue model.
The timeline of social media like Twitter and Facebook, with all the posts from people you follow or are friends with, is also essentially a news feed.
