Comment
Also called: reaction
A comment is a response to an article, post, video or other type of content posted on a website, weblog or social media, such as Facebook or YouTube. Being able to post comments under an article is a form of user generated content. The emergence of commenting capabilities is considered one of the components of the "Web 2.0."
Offering the ability to post comments enables interaction between creators and readers and among visitors. In many standard systems for weblogs and content management, including WordPress, comment functionality is standard or can be added in the form of modules.
The step for visitors to leave a comment is minimized if no account or registration is required to post a comment. To prevent inappropriate comments from being posted, moderation can be applied beforehand or afterwards. Technical filters such as captchas can be used to prevent mass automatic posting of unwanted comments, or comment spam.
On some platforms, such as Twitter, a response consists of a post on one's timeline with a reference to the post being responded to. In that case, the response is not referred to as a comment but is called a reply.
