Lorem Ipsum
Lorem Ipsum is a text often used by designers, dtp'ers and printers as a placeholder to assess how a design or typeface would look with realistic content.
By using a text that has no meaning to the reader, the reader is not distracted by the content of the sample text and it is easier to focus on the form. Added to this, a sample text like this one has a fairly natural alternation of punctuation and long and short words.
Origin of Lorem Ipsum
There are very many different variants of the Lorem Ipsum text. The first line is always (almost) identical. The first words are taken from the book De finibus bonorum et malorum by Marcus Tullius Cicero, a Roman politician and philosopher who lived from 106 B.C. to the year 43 B.C. The standard version dates from around 1500.
The first paragraph of the standard version of Lorem Ipsum:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.
Although there appears to be a text written in Latin, then in fact it is already pseudo-Latin. Even in Latin, the text has no meaning. Also, the various variants are riddled with spelling errors. This also makes Lorem Ipsum a suitable dummy text for people who have mastered Latin.
