Placeholder
Also called: filler text, dummy text or image placeholder
A placeholder is a temporary fill-in pending a final text or image, often in the design phase prior to publication, printing or distribution of an expression.
Fixed sample texts, such as Lorem Ipsum, are often used as placeholders for text. By using a text that has no meaning to the reader at this stage, attention remains fully focused on the design and/or layout, without being distracted by the content.
For domain names, the term placeholder refers to a temporary page that is displayed until the final Web site is ready to go online.
In Web forms, the placeholder is a text displayed in an empty text field before the user enters their input there.
