Universal Business Language
Also known as: UBL
UBL (Universal Business Language) is a digital standard for documents within e-commerce. The purpose of UBL is to standardize and simplify the exchange and electronic processing of information. Examples include invoices, purchase orders and bills of lading.
By using UBL, systems can communicate with each other more easily (without human intervention). For example, an e-mail that, in addition to an invoice in PDF format, also contains a UBL file can be automatically processed in the administration.
The standard was developed by OASIS. This is a non-profit organization in which several (mainly American) companies, manufacturers, universities and governments are represented. There are no licenses associated with the use of UBL. UBL uses open formats such as XML and JSON. In addition to the general global standard, of which several versions now exist, several local custom subsets exist.
