E-commerce
Also known as: e-business
E-commerce or e-business is is an umbrella term for transactions that are handled digitally. For example, the purchase of a product from an online store. E-commerce has existed strictly since the 1970s, when banks first started using a mutual computer network to exchange money. The term became familiar to the masses with the rise of online shopping on the World Wide Web.
Often, support activities are also seen as part of e-commerce. These include digitizing information exchanges between organizations (with standards such as UBL) handling online payments, distribution and online marketing. The part of e-commerce that takes place on mobile devices is also called m-commerce.
