Server-to-Server
The term server-to-server (S2S) refers to direct communication between two different servers. A server is a computer or program that provides services to clients, i.e. the visitors/users of a website. Thus, when a Web site is clicked on, the user is redirected via the Internet to the respective Web server (i.e., a central computer) so that the requested digital platform can be loaded and viewed. Besides this mentioned Web server, there are storage servers that have a large amount of storage capabilities (Cloud services) and main servers in form of central computers of a company.
Advantages of a server-to-server solution
Choosing a server-to-server solution is an efficient solution. When using, for example, a mobile app in a traditional setup, it is often necessary that a device will receive information from multiple servers. In practice, this means that the device used has to process a lot of information, which can involve the risk of errors, delays and a shortage of available data space. By choosing a server-to-server solution, these types of "inconveniences" are avoided.
