Barcode
Also known as: bar code
A barcode or barcode is an image consisting of a large number of lines. The thickness of the lines corresponds to numbers, so that the barcode as a whole forms a number sequence.
By providing items with a scannable barcode, they can be easily identified with a special barcode scanner. Bar code applications include scanning and docking and checkout of products in a store, lending books in a library, inventory control in a warehouse, sorting luggage at airports and delivering packages.
Alternatives to the barcode
The barcode has since gained several successors. Due to its two-dimensional nature, a QR code can store more information than a numerical code. With RFID, the contents of tags can be read remotely by means of radio waves.
