AAC file
Also known as: AAC file
An AAC file is an extension that is applied with efficient compression and distribution of digital music as the main objective. The letters AAC stand for Advanced Audio Coding. This file therefore allows a file size to be reduced without sacrificing audio quality. An AAC file is considered a successor to the MP3 and an improvement over this file extension for music and sound clips. These improvements are reflected in better sound quality, higher encoding efficiency for still and short-lived signals, support for multiple audio channels and an improved sampling frequency range.
AAC files are widely used by Apple Inc. and other developers in this field. The audio compression format was developed in 1997. AAC files are often added to an MP4 container. This choice effectively supports tagging and identification functions.
