Cyberspace
Cyberspace is an umbrella term for the domain of globally connected technology. The term originated from science fiction and became popular in the 1990s with the rise of the Internet and other forms of digital communication through computer networks. These developments led to the term being adopted by professionals within the ICT sector, government and business.
The term cyberspace is actually a metaphor, which can refer both to physical technology and to the concept of mutual and non-local interaction between users, devices and information systems. The term is derived from cybernetics, a term derived by philosopher and mathematician Norbert Wiener from the Ancient Greek kybernetes, meaning helmsman or rudder. The name cyberspace was first used as the title for an installation by Danish artist Susanne Ussing in 1968.
Meanwhile, cyberspace has become an umbrella for everything related to the Internet, not just limited to the World Wide Web. Here the social aspect of interaction between participants in this virtual space has become increasingly central, with technological capabilities and developments playing primarily a facilitating role.
