Point of interest
Also called: POI, waypoint or landmark
A point of interest is a useful or interesting place. Any place can theoretically be a point of interest. Within navigation systems and other map-based applications, POIs are used to reach a destination or get an impression of an area and its features. Based on the user's GPS location, POIs can be found and a route can be planned if desired.
Examples of points of interest include hotels, gas stations, parking garages, restaurants and campgrounds. Navigation systems and other information systems in which POIs can be found contain a database of points of interest and their geographic location.
Alternative terms for the term point of interest are waypoint or landmark.
