Hreflang
A hreflang is a tag used for multilingual Web sites with the purpose of making it clear to search engines for which region and language a specific Web page is intended. Hreflang tags are thus used to name all language variants of a URL in the source code.
The use of a hreflang tag is especially important when using extensions such as ".com" or ".net." After all, these are generic extensions. By using hreflang, a search engine can determine which Web page is most appropriate for the searches entered in different countries and languages. In addition, a hreflang tag can be used to prevent duplicate content such as when using both a Dutch- and a Dutch-language Belgian website.
