E-mail marketing includes all forms of marketing via e-mail. The best known form of e-mail marketing is sending newsletters. When offering (potential) customers the opportunity to be kept informed about relevant developments and offers via e-mail, e-mail marketing can be a valuable communication and promotional tool.
Applying email marketing effectively does require attention. When the quantity of newsletters or e-mail messages sent is excessive, or is no longer perceived as informative by recipients, e-mail marketing can easily be seen as unwanted e-mail(spam). Therefore, it is very important to respect the legislation on sending e-mail.
In the Netherlands, the recipient must have given explicit permission through a double opt-in before you can send (commercial) e-mails. For existing customers, under certain conditions, this permission is not necessary. An unsubscribe option for e-mail newsletters must be available at all times.
