Keyword stuffing
When writing SEO text, keyword stuffing is exactly what you want to avoid. Keyword stuffing is about overusing a keyword in a text. It is very important to use keywords in a text to be found. But once a keyword appears too often in a text it starts to backfire on your findability. Then the text not only becomes boring to read for visitors but also for search engine crawlers.
Initially, search engines only looked at text and keywords. This quickly gave sites a high ranking in search results. Because many Web sites took advantage of this, a lot of content became not a nice read for visitors. Google has fortunately chosen not to accept this as a "good website" anymore. Due to the change in Google's quality guidelines:
- Don't rank better in search results with keyword stuffing
- Can even cause you to be even less likely to be findable due to a negative ranking from Google
H2: Tips to avoid keyword stuffing
Of course, it is helpful to know how to avoid keyword stuffing. Nowadays, it is better to write texts naturally. Think how to write the text for the reader, not the search engine. By putting yourself in the position of the reader, you prevent keyword stuffing. Then if you are still afraid of having used too many keywords in the text you can still do some things to be sure:
- Read the text aloud to hear how natural the text sounds
- Use ctrl + F to find the keywords in the text
Especially the last tip can be very useful to calculate keyword density. Keyword density stands for the keyword density percentage. To calculate keyword density you look at how often the keyword appears in the text and the number of words of the total text. Suppose the keyword appears 10 times in a 1,000-word text, the keyword density is 1%. A good keyword density is between 0.5% and 3%. In addition to this calculation, a naturally readable text is exactly what you need to avoid keyword stuffing.
