Position in search engines
Search engine position means the number of times a site is shown within a search result for a given query. The web page that appears at the top of the first page of a search result is usually the most clicked on. When referring to "a Web site's position in search engines," one generally means the average position for relevant search terms rather than one specific search term.
Position in the market
How a company or product stands within the market in which it operates is known as its market position. Is it a newcomer or an established name? Does it have a small or large market share, or even a monopoly? Is it known as cheap or expensive, what is its image like?
What position an organization wants to hold and what it does to achieve this is called positioning.
Geographic position
Position can also refer to where a user is located, determined using the Global Positioning System(GPS). This position can be used for Location Based Services.
Position of an advertisement
The value of an ad position is partly determined by its location. A newspaper ad will attract more attention on the front page than on the second-to-last page. The same is true for online advertising. An important question for determining the value of an ad position is whether it is located above the fold.
