Win-win
Also called: win-win situation
Win-win occurs when more than one party benefits from a particular arrangement. For example, a win-win situation can occur between a seller and a customer; the seller makes a profit on a purchase and the customer can make use of a product.
Win-win situations can go beyond this simple example. When replacing a movable bridge with an aqueduct, ships benefit from always free passage and road traffic is no longer hindered by bridge openings. The construction requires an investment from the government, but this provides revenue and jobs for the construction industry.
The pursuit of win-win can be part of a negotiation strategy. Linking one's own desires to those of the other party can make it easier to win them over.
