X-factor
The x-factor refers to having one or more qualities that someone else does not have. For example, the x-factor is the quality that makes a singer a star. The term has become known through talent shows on television, including the program of the same name X Factor.
The x-factor usually involves individuals. These do not have to be true stars. When we say that a manager has the x-factor, we mean, for example, that he has a series of competencies that make him excel in leadership. The x-factor can also refer to a brand or company. If a product or brand "has" the x-factor, it is usually because of the subject's usp's.
