Turnover
Also called: revenue, turnover or revenue
Turnover is the sum of all revenues of a business in a given period. The amount of revenue depends on the number of sales transactions (sales or volume) and the corresponding price.
Turnover is an indicator of a company's success. However, it says nothing about actual profits: a company can have high sales but still make a loss. Also, turnover does not take into account whether bills have actually been paid.
Gross sales are total sales. Net sales are calculated using gross sales minus returned items, damages and retrospective discounts.
Sales tax or VAT is a tax on the sale of products and services.
