A service area is the area within which customers or users live or are located. Another definition is the geographical operating area that a company can or wants to serve from a single location. In addition to businesses and stores, a service area can also refer to the region around a city in which the facilities present there (such as education, hospitals and shopping centers) are used.
In the periphery, service areas tend to be smaller, as the minimum number of customers required to make a service profitable can be achieved within a smaller area.
For companies, the defined catchment area is not only the region to which logistics and distribution (if any) are aligned, but also within which marketing activities take place.
