Consumable
Also called: consumer item
A consumable is a product that is made up during use. It is also referred to as consumer products or consumer goods. Consumable items include food (which is eaten or drunk), as well as products with a limited useful life that cannot be reused, due to consumption, combustion, wear and tear or pollution, among other reasons.
Examples of consumables include coffee, potatoes, drinking water, butter, plasters, bandages, medicines, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, diapers, diesel fuel, non-rechargeable batteries, ink, makeup and disposable dishes. With the use of all these products, after they have been consumed or for the purpose of keeping a certain supply, a need arises for a repeat purchase.
Products that can remain in use for extended periods of time are articles of use. While their life may be limited by wear and tear, among other things, these tools can be used more than once (or permanently). Where coffee and gasoline are a consumable, a coffee maker and a car are utensils.
