Also called: KPI, critical performance indicator(KPI), metric or key figure
Key performance indicators are variables used to analyze the performance of a company, brand or product. KPIs are used to objectively measure the success of an organization in general, or to gauge the success of a particular action or campaign. These units reveal the level of success and progress toward long-term goals.
The level of criticality distinguishes a key performance indicator from other performance indicators. Organizations typically have a great deal of information available about their own performance, but KPIs provide a manageable picture based on the most essential statistics.
Often organizations convert their long-term strategy into operational objectives. By including KPIs within these objectives, meeting these objectives becomes measurable(SMART). Crucial activities and focus areas for achieving the goals are called critical success factors.
