Initial demand
Initial demand is the need for a particular product among potential customers who do not currently own that product. When a product is purchased for the first time we refer to it as an initial purchase.
The concept of initial demand refers to durable consumer products. Therefore, for many products, this demand will be predominantly young people. Consider someone purchasing a television or washing machine for the first time in their life.
When someone wants to purchase an additional item, such as a second car, then there is additional demand. When a product needs replacement then there is replacement demand.
