Search engine reputation management
Also known as: search engine reputation management(SERM)
Search engine reputation management or search engine reputation management (SERM) focuses on the reputation of individuals and companies in search engines. SERM involves monitoring what resultsappear when searching on a the name of a person, brand or company.
When negative stories about a company or person appear in the results, this can be acted upon. An obvious method is to resolve complaints in the hope that the negative stories will then be removed or supplemented by the solution offered.
A negative reputation in search engines can also be nuanced by posting positive messages in return. Of course, it is inadvisable to post false positive reviews on the Internet, but a company or person is free to create profiles within social media and distribute news and press releases. Also, existing positive posts about a company can be boosted higher in Google by ensuring that these pages are linked to more often.
