position 0
Also called: featured snippets or answer boxes
Position 0 is a term for Google' s featured search results that are placed above the search results. These featured snippets are displayed framed at the top of search results and directly answer an informative search query. These are often search queries that begin with the words ""what"" and "how. In providing this information, the search engine strives to provide the searching user with relevant information within a very short period of time. This is why position 0 is also called an answer box.
Websites eligible for the #0 position
The #0 position is a term for the top spot on the search results page. The information provided in the answer boxes are provided with a link to the relevant website. With this spot at position 0, a website gets an additional listing on the search results page. The websites that land on this position are therefore clearly seen as authorities in the niche in question. By the way, these do not have to be the websites that rank first in organic search results. If a Web site (often within the top 5) provides more relevant information, that site's information will be used as a featured snippet. In addition, Google looks at previously visited pages and user location when assigning a position 0 to a Web site.
