Keywords are keywords used by search engine visitors. When performing a search, the search engine displays web pages to the user that match the search term.
To be found well on relevant terms, these should be used in web texts. Within web analytics, statistics packages can tell which keywords brought visitors in to a website. Many popular searches consist of more than one word. Specific searches consisting of several words are also called long-tail keywords.
A keyword analysis maps out which keywords are being used by an organization's target audience (potential customers) and can be valuable when writing web copy or setting up a search engine marketing campaign.
