Black hat SEO is a form of search engine optimization in which forbidden tricks are used to improve search engine rankings. Web pages are modified with the aim of fooling search engines. Example of black hat search engine optimization are cloaking and setting up link farms.
Search engines such as Google have established guidelines that webmasters should adhere to when building and maintaining their websites. Applying black hat methods can be lucrative, but will automatically result in a penalty (punishment) when recognized by search engines.
