Ecosia
Ecosia is a search engine that donates a large portion of its profits to nonprofit organizations engaged in reforestation programs. The search engine was founded in 2009 by German entrepreneur Christian Kroll. Ecosia profiles itself as a sustainable search engine, "The Search Engine That Plants Trees. Ecosia's mission is to plant one tree for every 45 searches performed using this search engine. Ecosia therefore claims to remove over 1 KG of CO2 from the air per search query. Meanwhile, over 100 million trees have been planted thanks to the search engine. This proves that Ecosia is a search engine that considers the environment (people and the planet) more important than making a profit. The platform is very transparent about this by regularly posting reports on the website about tree planting projects. The searches performed using the search engine are completely anonymous. No profile of the user is created and their data is not sold to advertisers. After all, Ecosia has interests other than shaping and selling profiles.
