Content Calendar
A content calendar is a tool for planning, organizing and regularly publishing new articles and posts through the website, weblogs, social media and newsletters. Often, the content calendar is part of a content marketing strategy.
The usefulness of a content calendar
In many organizations that do not use content calendars, the posting of new content is driven by the delusion and news of the day. The result is a lack of continuity: extended periods of time when the website, Twitter and Facebook are not updated, with occasional multiple posts that follow in quick succession. This does not take full advantage of the algorithms of social media and search engines such as Google, and the attention value of new publications is taken advantage of only to a limited extent.
How does a content calendar work?
A content calendar schedules in advance what will be published when and where. The subjects and forms are determined in advance as much as possible. It also indicates who is ultimately responsible and whether other departments and suppliers should be involved. Using a content calendar makes it easier to collaborate. It also helps to have the desired content ready for publication in a timely manner.
In addition to date, subject and responsible editor, content calendars for each publication often specify the type of content, target audience and channels to be used. Describing such characteristics helps to create content(text, images and/or videos) with the right form, specifications and tone of voice. Sometimes a content calendar also lists any budget and desired goals in the form of KPIs.
How do you create a content calendar?
Content calendars can be created and maintained in a variety of ways. Many organizations use a spreadsheet in Excel or a shared calendar. There are also specialized tools and software to create a content calendar.
