Trending topic
When a certain topic is frequently discussed on social media in a short period of time, it is called a trending topic. It usually refers to usage on Twitter, which displays on its home page a top-10 list of words that are currently being used relatively frequently in tweets. A word can be trending topic worldwide, but lists are also maintained at the national level.
Determining trending topics involves looking at the content of recently posted posts. Terms used remarkably often in these are potential trending topics. Among trending topics are often names of people or topics that are in the news.
