Selfie
A selfie is a self-portrait in the form of a digital photograph, usually taken with a smartphone, that is posted on a social networking site such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Selfies are also commonly set as a profile picture. A feature of a selfie is that you can see in the photo that the person is holding the camera themselves. By the way, a selfie can also include other people, animals or things.
The word "selfie" was reportedly first used on an Internet forum in 2002, but became especially popular starting in 2012. The rise of the selfie is partly due to the growth in the use of social media. The term also became widely known due to celebrities sharing selfies on social media. In 2013, the term was named word of the year and added to the Van Dale.
Taking a selfie is relatively easy because smartphones are almost standardly equipped with a front camera. This allows you to view yourself on the screen while taking a picture of yourself. To make taking a selfie even easier, special accessories have appeared on the market, such as the selfie stick, a stick into which you can clip your phone. This way there is no need to stretch out your arm when taking a selfie, and you can also more easily show more people or objects in one selfie.
