Domain verification (Facebook)
Verifying your domain on Facebook has a number of handy benefits, one of which is being able to customize the text and image in the link preview. Perhaps you've often experienced an unclear link preview when trying to post a message on Facebook, with a strange title, an incorrect description and a strange image. This often has to do with Facebook not understanding the link between your website and your Facebook page. This is why domain verification on Facebook can help solve this problem.
The steps for Facebook domain verification
To arrange domain verification, you need a Business Manager account. You can create one at business.facebook.com. Verifying a domain on Facebook is done in the following steps:
- Go to the Business Settings on the Business Manager and under Brand Safety click on 'Domains'
- By clicking on the blue Add button you can add a new domain. You don't have to put "www." before the URL of your website
- Then you will get a notification that the verification is in Pending. Something now needs to be added on the side of your website. Here there are two options to confirm the domain verification. The first option is to add a code from the DNS records. Option number two is to add an HTML file to the website
- Once the file or code is added you can click the green 'Verify' button in the Business Manager
- By clicking Add Assets you can then link your page to the domain. Here you click on the corresponding page, on Add and on Done
The third step is best done by your website's webmaster. These are more knowledgeable about how the website works and how best to implement verification. It is recommended to send both options to the webmaster, so they can choose which option fits best. In addition, it is wise to send a screenshot of the Facebook page that shows all the steps to put the code or file on the website. This way, you will have ensured domain verification within a few steps and no more problems with incorrect link examples.
