Clubhouse
Clubhouse is a social media application(app) entirely focused on allowing authorized users to have live conversations and listen in on conversations. Clubhouse is a talk app introduced as a social media platform in April 2020. The platform takes its name from the fact that a digital clubhouse is formed. The digital space consists of several rooms in which conversations are held. In the public rooms, anyone can listen in on the conversations being held. This puts Clubhouse somewhere between a podcast and a live talk show. The private rooms are by invitation only.
Clubhouse as digital conversation leader
In the design of the Clubhouse rooms, two halves can be distinguished in which a digital stage can be clearly distinguished. On this stage, space is made for the speaker telling a story or the speakers conversing with each other. Users in the audience are given the opportunity to raise their digital hand if they have the intention of participating in the conversation. Only then will that user's microphone be turned on. In this way, Clubhouse ensures that conversations do not get mixed up and can be followed easily. In addition, a maximum number of people per room is allowed. The app allows users to follow each other and subscribe to a specific room. The user subscribed to a specific room will be notified when a new conversation starts. This is very practical because listening back to a conversation is not (yet) possible. After all, the conversations are not recorded.
Becoming a member of Clubhouse
Clubhouse works with invitations and a queue. This creates an exclusive character. Each new user receives two invitations. The invited people, in turn, also receive two invitations. In addition, Clubhouse users sometimes get the opportunity to "let in" people from the queue. Within a relatively short time, Clubhouse has become one of the most popular networks today.
