Conversion attribution
Also known as: conversion attribution
Conversion attribution is assigning a resource to an (online) conversion.
Web statistics and cookies can be used to determine through which website, search engine and/or advertisement a visitor entered before proceeding to place an order.
Sometimes the conversion results from multiple visits by the customer to the website, through different sources. In this case, different models can be applied to assign the conversion, such as the first referral or just the last referral. Sometimes a conversion is assigned or distributed to multiple targets.
Conversion attribution allows the value of an external hyperlink, keyword or ad to be determined. Within affiliate marketing, conversion attribution is used to pay out compensation to the right affiliate.
