Cost per mille(abbreviation: CPM) represents the cost of one thousand impressions of a particular expression, such as a banner or text link. The term is widely used in various forms of online marketing.
With cost per mille, the advertiser pays for the placement of his advertising message, not for the actual effect (such as traffic to the website). Therefore, online advertising based on CPM usually aims primarily at increasing brand awareness. The percentage of the number of banners placed that were actually viewed is expressed as viewability.
