Cookie Time
Also known as: cookie time
Cookie time is the time during which a cookie from a website is stored on the visitor's computer. The term is found in affiliate marketing and web statistics, among others. The cookie may be automatically deleted from the user's PC after this time expires, or the online software may ignore or overwrite the cookie after this.
In Web analytics, cookie time is key to distinguishing visits from unique visitors. To link multiple page views to one session and multiple visits to one unique visitor, statistics software often sets cookies. The maximum lifetime of these cookies determines how traffic is measured.
In affiliate marketing, cookie time plays a role in conversion attribution. As long as a cookie that was set on the first visit through a particular affiliate has not yet expired or been overwritten, conversion that occurs subsequently will be attributed to that affiliate.
