Infographic
Also called: infographic
Images are often used in communications to reinforce text. In an infographic, text and images are one integrated whole. Infographics are used to convey information quickly and clearly. The use of infographics is also referred to as data visualization.
An infographic might include, for example, a graph, instructional diagram or floor plan. An infographic allows the reader to see information at a glance (or in steps). This makes the information in an infographic more accessible than if it were presented in a bare text form.
Infographics are part of a whole, just as a newspaper article about an election result often includes an image of a map showing voting patterns by municipality.
An infographic can also stand alone. Then it is often a larger image in which several graphs and diagrams are combined with text to convey a particular message at once. You could think of them as a mini-report. You come across these types of infographics a lot on the Internet, where they are among those easily shared through weblogs and social media.
