Printing error
Also called: misprint
A printing or typesetting error is an error that occurs during the printing process.
The cause of printing errors is usually of a technical nature. For example, errors can be caused by equipment failure or by ink smudging from one sheet to another.
The terms misprint and misprint are also sometimes wrongly invoked to defend editorial flaws.
Typesetting error
The terms printing error and typesetting error are often used interchangeably but that is not quite correct. In the original printing press, letters were placed one at a time in the correct place in the printing form. A misplaced letter is an example of a misprint. To avoid typesetting errors, a proof is often made.
The contemporary counterpart of the misprint is the typo.
