Small Capital
In typography, the term small-capital refers to a variant of letter formatting in which words are written entirely in capitals. However, a smaller version of the original lower case letters is used so that the distinction between upper case and lower case letters remains visible.
Small capitals are also used for writing abbreviations that consist of capital letters. By using smaller capital letters, abbreviations attract less attention optically.
Within small capitals, a distinction can be made between true small capitals, which are designed separately from the "normal" capitals, and false small capitals, which simply consist of reduced versions of the capitals. In both cases, the height of the capitals corresponds to the x-height.
