Splash page
A splash page or screen is a page displayed on the Internet before the home page. Such a page is created with a deliberate purpose for the website. So this is not an advertisement for an external company, but perhaps for your own company or (a specific) product. The purpose of a splash screen is to leave an impression on the visitor. It depends on the Web site builder whether the Web page has a "skip" option to skip the splash page.
Internet of application splash pages
Both on the Internet and in applications, a splash page can occur. This can be an animation or video that is shown beforehand. The function of a splash page in these cases is either informative or uninformative. An example of an informative splash page is a video about the features of your product. A non-informative splash page is, for example, a drop-down menu for different language options on the website. In an application, a splash page is displayed during the loading of the application. The purpose of the splash page is then to indicate that the application is loading.
Optimizing a splash page
The question is whether a splash page is optimal for your Web site visitors. This is because it creates an additional barrier for the visitor to get to the intended home page. This can have a negative effect since Internet users are not known for their enormous patience. This will cause a visitor to click away from your website because the splash page wastes their precious time. Therefore, putting a skip-intro button in a findable place is a good idea. To prevent the visitor from leaving the splash page, you can implement the following tips:
- Make sure the animation/video/loading page is not too long
- Make sure the animation/video is interesting or informative so the visitor is more likely to finish watching it
- Make sure there is a clear skip button on the splash page so the visitor does not have to stay on the splash page if they do not want to
