Art director
An art director in an advertising agency or within a marketing department is in charge of the day-to-day creative direction. The leadership role is primarily that of captain. He or she defines the artistic vision and collaborates with business executives in execution.
The art director is responsible for the creative process surrounding the design and development of campaigns and visual expressions such as logos, advertisements and commercials. Often, an art director works under a creative director who has ultimate creative responsibility.
Art directors have an important role in conceiving, developing and making decisions in the creative field. Art directors possess both creativity and commercial acumen. The art director usually forms a creative team with specialists such as copywriters, graphic designers, photographers and/or directors.
Within the team, the art director is primarily responsible for the visual side of the project and making the overall line of products and campaigns fit the client's needs and goals.
At newspapers and magazines, art directors work closely with editors in determining the formatting of pages and articles and aligning content and appearance.
