Flying store
A flying store is a store that sells products at bargain prices in a temporary location. Temporary in this case can range from several months or weeks, to opening a flying store for several days or even hours.
The items sold are mostly from bought-up (leftover) lots. Therefore, the supply may vary from time to time.
Flying stores that are open for several hours or days often perch in a room, such as of a party center or hotel. There may be displayed items as well as sales presentations. Flying stores are often announced through social media, newspaper advertisements and using sandwich boards. Stores that stay open longer usually sell from vacant premises that are temporarily rented.
Crowded but controversial
Flying stores can attract a large crowd in a short time who come to the temporary store to hunt for bargains. Due to the appeal of their bottom prices, regular stores in the area can lose sales. As a result, flying stores are not received with much enthusiasm in the retail industry.
Often flying stores are opened in places where the current zoning plan does not allow it and without the merchant having a license. This reinforces the view that flying stores are a form of unfair competition. At the same time, perching in places where it is not permitted provides opportunities to act against this phenomenon.
