On demand
The term on demand literally means on request or on demand. A service or product is delivered only when the customer or viewer shows the initiative to do so.
The term on demand is common in movies, series and television programs, or video on demand. Here the viewer is not, as in traditional television, continuously provided with a predetermined range of programs.
Instead, viewers decide what they want to see of the available offerings and when. Footage is downloaded immediately at the start or streamed during viewing. This can be unlimited subscription-based (as with Netflix and Spotify) or pay-per-view.
The term on demand can also be used with physical products. This can then mean that a product is produced only when ordered, customized to the customer's requirements if desired.
