Year to date is the period from January 1 to a given date during that year. Year here can also refer to company's fiscal year, which could give a start date other than Jan. 1.
The term is common in the context of business performance. Year-to-date results refer to the results of the current year to date. By comparing these results with the same period of the previous year, insight can be gained into the current year's performance.
